Stand with oil sands workers calling for training in renewable energy
As oil sands workers, or friends and family of somebody in the energy industry, we acknowledge the contribution of fossil fuel extraction projects to our lives and livelihoods. As global citizens, we also acknowledge the need to reach climate change targets. Let's seize this opportunity and create jobs in the renewable energy sector.
We’re calling on the government of Alberta to invest in training programs, starting by retraining one thousand out-of-work oil industry electricians in Alberta in solar panel installation.
Our message is simple: This is a challenge that needs builders to build solutions. We can diversify job opportunities for Canadian workers with policy that supports renewables. This doesn't have to be at the expense of oil and gas. By preparing the renewable energy workforce it is a win-win for Canadian workers, our families, our economy and the environment.
Like many Canadians, we know what a drop in oil prices means for our jobs and families and no longer want to rely too heavily on any single energy resource for our economic well-being.
We believe that together we can support the workforce and knowledge economy that will allow Canada to be a leader in the projects of tomorrow — projects that utilize cutting-edge technology to harness renewable energy sources and minimize the impacts of carbon-based extraction practices.

The workers displaced by the necessary structural changes resulting from climate change MUST be retrained for for similar jobs in solar and wind energy and elsewhere which require a much lesser capital investment per job created than petroleum industry jobs ($300$400,000/job). Another no brainer! As you are aware, the climate crisis demands that we move towards renewable energy as quickly as possible. Electricity grids are becoming strained and we need to find alternatives to relieve the burden, while lowering costs for consumers and minimizing our carbon footprint. Solar is on its way to becoming affordable, but wind production is still eight times higher. In places like Texas, wind power produces as much as 10% of the electricity. I am sure your audience would like an article which examines which energy source is best.
Let me explain. I have worked in the energy industry for over a decade, watching new technologies radically change how we produce electricity. In recent years, I have helped consumers to lower their bills, as an advisor and freelance writer. Researching this topic led me to http://www.ironandearth.org/jobs. I realized your audience would really appreciate an article on choosing the right energy source for your home.
If I wrote this for you, would you publish it on your website? I would really like to help educate consumers towards a more affordable and eco-friendly energy source. All I ask is to include some resources to give the article credibility.
I can get started on an article now, if you’re interested. Let me know – it would be wonderful to work with you on such an important topic.
Kind Regards,
Karoline
