Raquel Fernandes, Relationship Manager

Bachelor of Laws, LLB (Hons)

I am a first-generation Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario with close ties to my Portuguese heritage and community.

For university, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from The City Law School, City University of London where I was a mentor for the LLB Mentoring Scheme. After graduating, completing the Federation of Law Societies of Canada National Committee on Accreditation exams and working in the legal field for six years, I decided to change my career path. Since then, I have gained experience in marketing, digital content & website creation, entrepreneurship, business-to-business relations, and customer success. I have also earned multiple licenses and certifications through online learning platforms. I believe that it is important to always expand your knowledge!

I am passionate about advocacy, education, and building better communities. Through travelling the world, spending more time outdoors and in the farmlands of Portugal, my love for nature grew but so did my concern for the environment. I have been passionate about climate change ever since learning about it as a little kid in grade school so I am incredibly excited to make impactful positive contributions to climate solutions and help to reach our Net-Zero goal!

Iron & Earth is committed to partnering with Indigenous workers to empower their communities to become self-sufficient in training programs, clean energy transition projects, and employment opportunities to combat environmental racism. It falls to all of us to continue the work of healing and reconciliation in our communities and our organizations. Our relationship with the land and the people who live here shapes who we are. It is in the spirit of reconciliation and honouring the past that we recognize treaties and agreements wherever they are and wherever we work.

We also acknowledge all peoples who live, work, and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.
As individuals and teams we may make mistakes along the way, but we are dedicated to growth, openness, compassion, and forgiveness. These principles in our work are essential to building successful and healthy relationships with individuals, communities, organizations, and governments.

We look forward to building a path to lead us to a better relationship with Indigenous nations and the environment around us based on peace, friendship, and respect.
