ABOUT IRON & EARTH

Iron & Earth is working toward a future where the workforce is dynamically engaged in a thriving green economy. We envision broad participation in the Just Transition, leading to strengthened economic and climate resilience, expanded accessibility to sustainable energy solutions and meaningful careers.

Our vision extends beyond workforce mobilization to foster a community-driven transformation, where people actively contribute to a sustainable and equitable future, for their communities and the planet.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals implementation strategy, we believe that “economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development are mutually reinforcing”.

Iron & Earth delivers programs that enable community-driven climate solutions and reduce barriers for those seeking a future in the green economy. We acknowledge the links between colonialism and climate change, and support a Just Transition that is informed and led by Indigenous land stewardship.

Established in 2016 by fossil fuel workers, Iron & Earth was sparked by growing concerns of climate change and a collective desire to build a more prosperous and sustainable future.  We believe that if managed well, environmentally and socially sustainable economies can become strong drivers of job creation.

Our vision extends beyond workforce mobilization to foster a community-driven transformation, where people actively contribute to a sustainable and equitable future, for their communities and the planet.

The main values of Iron & Earth can be summarized in the following words: Justice, Respect and Resilience.

Our team welcomes Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, people with diverse abilities, genders and sexualities, as well as people with fossil fuel industry experience. We truly value everyone and take  steps to accommodate all persons in our workplace.

Iron & Earth was founded within Treaty 6 Territory and within the Métis homelands and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4. We acknowledge this land as the traditional territories of many First Nations, including the Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuliné (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot).

Iron & Earth acknowledges that our work takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of Indigenous Peoples across Canada. We recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the deep connection that Indigenous communities have with the land, water, and environment. Our commitment to a Just Transition is informed by Indigenous land stewardship principles. We are dedicated to fostering partnerships with Indigenous communities, respecting their sovereignty, and learning from their knowledge and traditions. We strive to ensure that our initiatives are inclusive and support community-driven climate solutions, contributing to a sustainable and equitable future for all. We honor the diverse histories, languages, and cultures of Indigenous Peoples and commit to continuing our journey of learning and reconciliation as we work together toward a thriving green economy.
