National Upskilling Initiative Petition

STAND WITH OIL & GAS, COAL AND INDIGENOUS WORKERS CALLING FOR UPSKILLING INTO RENEWABLE ENERGY

Canada’s energy industry stands at a crossroads. More than 100,000 workers have lost their jobs in the oil patch in the past three years1. At the same time, a prosperous renewable energy future is within sight, and it’s time for action.

Oil, gas and coal workers stand ready to put their skills to use in the growing renewable energy sector, and they need your help. If enough of us sign on, we'll show our federal and provincial governments that the time has come to invest in a National Upskilling Initiative. Please sign on now to show your support!

Our message is simple: we know that the skills of workers from the oil, gas and coal sectors are transferable to the growing renewable energy sector. We know they can help lead Canada into the future.

Done right, these rapid upskilling programs will focus on supporting industrial building trades (such as boilermakers, ironworkers, pipefitters, electricians, and crane operators), to diversify into renewable energy technologies (such as wind energy, biomass, biofuels, geothermal, and solar).

Upskilling programs should be led by the federal government, tailored at the provincial level, and implemented through unions, educational institutions and training providers across the country, while respecting and honouring Indigenous treaties.

Help us guarantee Canada’s future prosperity. Please add your name today, and we will hand deliver this message to government once we reach 10,000 pledge signatures.
